Cree Nation Grand Chief congratulates Philippe Couillard on election victory
NEMASKA, EEYOU ISTCHEE, QC, April 8, 2014 /CNW/ - Grand Chief Dr. Matthew Coon Come expressed his congratulations to Mr. Philippe Couillard on his clear electoral victory last night. The Cree Nation looks forward to the resumption of the very positive working relationship which the Cree Nation has enjoyed previously in working with the Liberal Government in the past. The Cree Nation and the previous Liberal Governments have developed very innovative and collaborative initiatives to address issues of concern, and in so doing have also established models for principled and pragmatic approaches to addressing fundamental Aboriginal concerns. Of particular note, is the historic Governance Agreement negotiated with the previous Liberal Government under the leadership of Mr. Jean Charest.
In commenting on the results of the election Dr. Coon Come stated: "On behalf of the entire Cree Nation I wish to congratulate Mr. Couillard on his victory. We look forward to continuing our efforts to work together on issues of mutual concern and to do so with the same spirit of creativity with which we have addressed issues together in the past. Our collective initiatives have often resulted in solutions which address Cree concerns, while simultaneously benefitting all the peoples in our region and which ultimately have been positive for Quebeckers as a whole. This is the direction we wish to keep going in."
