TORONTO, Sept. 8 /CNW/ - The Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association (CRFA) met with Premier Dalton McGuinty today to discuss the importance of the $22.5-billion restaurant industry to Ontario's future growth and job creation and present him with a personalized chef jacket.
In addition to naming the Premier an honorary chef, CRFA's President and CEO Garth Whyte, Executive Vice President Government Affairs Joyce Reynolds and Vice President Federal Ron Reaman delivered key messages to him about the restaurant industry's contribution to Ontario's economy:
- The restaurant industry is the fourth largest employer in the province, with more than 400,000 employees - more than real estate and leasing, agriculture and utilities combined.
- Restaurants provide jobs for nearly one in five Ontario youth - which equals almost 172,500 young people.
- With more than 30,500 establishments, the restaurant industry is a key element of the province's social and economic fabric, creating jobs and investment across communities.
"The restaurant industry plays a key role in growing employment, tourism and vibrant communities," says Whyte. "We're very pleased to share this message with Premier McGuinty, and to encourage him to create a stable business environment so that our members continue to expand and invest in Ontario."
"The health of Ontarians is a key priority for both the Premier and CRFA," he adds. "We presented our healthy living vision for the industry to the Premier and had a constructive and lengthy discussion on how his government and CRFA can work together."
