Cross-Canada PTSD Awareness Tour Announced
TORONTO, Feb. 18, 2014 /CNW/ - In light of the many PTSD-related military suicides and the increase in work-related PTSD within the ranks of Canada's public safety, correctional, and military personnel, The Tema Conter Memorial Trust is proud to announce its 2014 Heroes Are Human PTSD Awareness Tour.
Join us from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Hilton Garden Inn Toronto/Vaughan, 3201 Highway 7, in Vaughan, Ontario for the official media launch of the tour.
Hosted by Canadian actor Enrico Colantoni, TEMA's national spokesman, you will have the opportunity to hear from and interview PTSD survivors who are willing to share their personal stories.
The cross-country tour will begin in beautiful St. John's, Newfoundland on May 5th. It will travel coast to coast and end in Toronto, Ontario on July 18th.With the help of local correctional, emergency services, and military organizations, The Trust will host a two- hour community-based educational event in forty-eight towns and cities across Canada. These events will highlight the impact of the psychological stressors of acute, cumulative, post- traumatic stress, and vicarious trauma and how these stressors impact the men and women of Canada's frontline correctional, emergency and military personnel.
"These men and women see tragic events every day," said Vince Savoia, founder and executive director of the Trust. "They witness human suffering up close and it sometimes becomes very difficult to cope with the aftermath. Smells, sounds and reliving witnessed events create lasting painful memories that sometimes haunt these men and women for life".
The tour's events will be open to anyone who is interested in learning more about operational stress injuries and there will be no charge to attend.
Tour sponsors include Medavie EMS, the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, the Ontario Provincial Police Association, Ambulance Paramedics of British Columbia, CUPE 873, InterContinental Hotels Group, Fines Ford Lincoln Sales and North City General Insurance.
