CrossIron Mills, Alberta's newest shopping destination, opens its doors
Alberta's first new enclosed regional shopping centre in more than 20 years welcomes eager shoppers </pre> <p/> <p>ROCKY VIEW, AB, <span class="xn-chron">Aug. 19</span> /CNW/ - Today, Ivanhoe Cambridge celebrated the grand opening of CrossIron Mills, an innovative 1.4 million-square-foot enclosed shopping centre, located just outside of <span class="xn-location">Calgary</span> in <span class="xn-person">Rocky View</span> County. Thousands of enthusiastic shoppers visited the property to get a first glimpse of the much-awaited shopping destination.</p> <p>CrossIron Mills is the first enclosed regional shopping centre to open in Alberta in more than 20 years and Ivanhoe Cambridge invested close to <span class="xn-money">$500 million</span> in this exciting property. The merchandise mix is segmented into the following six merchandising categories: manufacturer factory outlets, specialty retail outlets, department store outlets, off-price retailers, category dominant stores, and entertainment retailers.</p> <p>CrossIron Mills boasts many first-in-Alberta and largest-in-Alberta retailers. Anchor tenants include Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Pro Hockey Life, La Senza, Forever XXI, Toys "R" Us/Babies "R" Us, Winners, HomeSense, Indigo, The Children's Place, H & M, <span class="xn-person">Tommy Hilfiger</span> Outlet, Laura, and Bed, Bath & Beyond.</p> <p>CrossIron Mills is Alberta's largest single-level shopping centre. The architecture is innovative and contemporary and reflects Alberta's unique heritage. The design elements celebrate the geographic regions, memorable landmarks and cultural icons of the province. The interior is divided into six themed neighbourhoods: fashion, ranch, resource, fossil and sport. The entertainment neighbourhood, featuring restaurants and a 45,000-square-foot 7-screen SilverCity entertainment complex, will open in 2010.</p> <p>During construction CrossIron Mills generated 2,500 jobs and upon opening, the centre provides approximately 3,500 full- and part-time jobs. The centre will also add significantly to local annual tax revenues.</p> <p>The grand opening ceremonies were a celebration of all things Alberta and were hosted by Hockey Night in Canada's Kelly Hrudey.
