OTTAWA-GATINEAU, May 24, 2012 /CNW/ - Today, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) began a process to address the predicted telephone number shortage for the regions served by area code 902 in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
The Canadian Numbering Administrator (CNA) has advised the CRTC that area code 902 is expected to run out of telephone numbers by April 2015. The CNA administers the distribution of phone numbers in Canada on behalf of the CRTC.
The Commission is establishing a Relief Planning Committee to evaluate various relief options and make recommendations to the CRTC. The Commission will then make a decision on the most appropriate option.
The CRTC invites members of the public and telecommunications industry to participate in this consultation. Those interested in participating can contact the Canadian Numbering Administrator by telephone at 613-563-7242 or visit www.cnac.ca.
