TORONTO, Sept. 21, 2015 /CNW/ - CSA Group, a leading global provider of standards development, testing and certification services announced that it achieved accreditation to conduct testing and evaluation for ESMA (Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology) under the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme (ECAS) & Emirates Quality Mark (EQM) Scheme for commodities to standards.
ESMA is the sole standardization body in UAE and is responsible for standards and granting the Emirates Quality Mark (EQM) for national products and issuing certificates of conformity under ECAS for commodities to standards. ESMA has implemented a subcontractor program where it accredits testing and calibration laboratories and certification bodies.
"Manufacturers are increasingly looking to reach new markets and the United Arab Emirates is one of the largest economies in the Gulf region. By expanding our services and adding new accreditations, we are constantly working to ensure we meet the needs of our valued clients. "said Magali Depras, Chief Operating Officer, CSA Group. "UAE represents a growing market for manufacturers, and CSA Group's new service offerings under EQM and ECAS will allow our clients to continue to reach new customers globally through one-stop local service."
ESMA has mandated these schemes to ensure products entering or manufactured in UAE comply with the appropriate standards for health, safety and environmental protection. ESMA has a mandate to raise the quality of regulated products entering the UAE and to strengthen the economy for industrial and commercial sectors. It also promotes the harmonization of international standards to help reduce international trade barriers.
CSA Group has entered into an agreement with ESMA as a subcontractor to assist customers in obtaining ECAS and EQM certifications. Products in the agreement include household appliances, audio-visual equipment, hand-held electrical tools, water heaters, fans and air conditioners. CSA Group has offices in 16 countries around the world and can assist manufacturers to obtain global market access for their products.
