TORONTO, Dec. 18, 2014 /CNW/ - CSA Group, a leading global provider of testing and certification services and a standards development organization, today announced its labs in Irvine, California, Montreal, Quebec and Toronto, Ontario, have been accredited to offer North American and CB Scheme testing and certification for home healthcare medical equipment under the standard IEC 60601-1-11: Medical Electrical Equipment and Medical Electrical Systems used in the home healthcare environment.
The new accreditation expands the services the facilities offer to include testing and certification of home healthcare medical electrical equipment for basic safety and essential performance and requirements for medical electrical systems used in the home healthcare environment for Canada and the United States. Under the IECEE CB scheme multi-lateral agreements, CSA Group also offers testing and certification for an additional 35 countries worldwide.
"Home healthcare is an expanding market and the medical devices used in home care have become more complex," says Sudhir Joshi, Global Business Unit Director Medical, Safety and Technology. "CSA Group already has expertise in this area and offers numerous testing and certification programs for medical healthcare equipment. We are excited to expand our capabilities to offer our customers more service options along with the confidence of knowing their medical devices are being tested and certified for safety and performance."
The use of medical electrical equipment in a home environment is becoming increasingly popular. Mobile health devices and web-based applications permit home and self-care for many patients, allowing for treatment outside of a health facility environment. Helping to ensure the safety of the medical electrical equipment and providing detailed instructions for its operation is particularly important in this environment where individuals without medical training are using this type of equipment.
In addition to the above services, CSA Group offers testing and certification for the medical, laboratory and health care field including: electro-medical equipment/system, laboratory, test and measurement and child-resistant packaging. It has also developed standards for medical and health care in areas such as support systems, home health care, patient care, medical devices and systems and facility infrastructure. Over the next year, CSA Group plans to expand its facilities across North America to meet the growing needs of clients. CSA Group has certification and testing labs throughout Canada and the United States including Vancouver, Edmonton, Cleveland, and Dallas and employs more than 1,800 people across the globe.
