CSIC Chair and Acting CEO receives prestigious governance award
TORONTO, Feb. 25 /CNW/ - The Directors College, Canada's leading university-accredited director education program, awarded CSIC Chair and Acting CEO John Ryan with The Gilbert Bennett Gold Standard Award today in recognition of his extensive and varied commitment to excellence in corporate governance.
The Conference Board of Canada and McMaster University's DeGroote School of Business founded The Directors College, which has become Canada's premier institution for director education. Ryan graduated from the college with an internationally recognized Chartered Director professional designation from McMaster.
"John has worked tirelessly for more than a decade to bring regulation and respect to the immigration consulting profession," said Nigel Thomson, Lead Director for CSIC's Board of Directors. "Governance can be a powerful tool to bring people together to reach a common goal and John's governance training has provided CSIC with superb management and leadership expertise that has been crucial to its growth as a regulator."
The Directors College introduced the Gold Standard Award in 2006 in honour of former Canadian Tire chairman Gil Bennett. It is awarded annually to a graduate who demonstrates dedication to exceptional professional standards in corporate governance.

The Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants is the professional regulatory body for immigration consultants in Canada. Established in 2004 it currently has more than 1600 members. CSIC's mandate is to protect consumers of immigration consulting services. Consequently, it is responsible for ensuring the education, competency testing and the discipline of its members. CSIC also requires its members to carry errors and omissions insurance and to contribute to a compensation fund.
