MONTRÉAL, June 20, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Centre de technologies avancées BRP – Université de Sherbrooke (CTA) presents this week its Can-Am Spyder electric concept vehicle during the Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exposition (EVS29) taking place at the Palais des congrès de Montréal from June 19 to 22, 2016.
In December 2010, the CTA started the development of an electric hybrid concept vehicle. The evolution of the project has led to this fully functional 100% electric concept vehicle that can achieve a range of 170 km with zero emissions and without compromising performance with respect to gas-powered models. At the heart of this concept lies a CTA-patented 16 kW/h battery pack that is available for potential new clients.
The CTA is at the heart of innovation, and the cooperation between the Université de Sherbrooke and BRP is an unparalleled asset in research and development projects. Over 20 post-graduate students participated in this nearly-5-year $11.3M project.
"We are very proud to show this electric concept vehicle during the most highly acclaimed symposium in the electric drive industry," said Pascal Ranger, the CTA's general manager. "The CTA's expertise is focused on vehicle electrification, mechatronics, lightweighting, connectivity as well as noise and vibration management. We adopt a predictive engineering approach to reduce development costs and time for our clients."
The project was supported financially by the Automotive Partnership Canada program, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, InnovÉÉ and BRP.
EVS29, the largest international electric vehicle conference, returns to North America from June 19 to 22, 2016. EVS has been assembling global leaders from industry, government and academia to address technical, policy and market topics in the electrification of vehicle fleets since 1969.
