TORONTO, Feb. 3, 2014 /CNW/ - A casting call went out today for Canadians from across the country to be part of THE 2014 JUNO AWARDS broadcast on CTV - just by "Takin' Care of Business." The network, along with The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and Insight Productions, announced today the launch of the brand-new digital initiative JUNO Tribute Nation, in support of THE 2014 JUNO AWARDS. The interactive site provides a unique and exciting opportunity for millions of Canadians to unite across the country while paying tribute to one of Canada's greatest bands, Winnipeg's own Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO), this year's Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees. "We are thrilled to launch the brand-new, interactive initiative JUNO Tribute Nation in advance of THE 2014 JUNO AWARDS," said Phil King, President, CTV Programming, Sports, and Entertainment Programming. "From the comfort of their own living room, Canadians from across the country will have the chance to truly take part in this year's broadcast via JunoTribute.ca."
By creating a personal connection between the audience, BTO, and the awards, JUNO Tribute Nation allows Canadians to creatively get involved in THE 2014 JUNO AWARDS broadcast. Viewers are invited to upload, or recording directly on the JUNO Tribute Nation site, their best cover version of one of the band's biggest hits, "Takin' Care of Business" and then share via their personal social media platforms. Ultimately, a collection of the submitted performance clips will be selected and compiled to create a spectacular video event, unveiled during THE 2014 JUNO AWARDS broadcast on March 30 CTV and CTV GO.
Beginning today through March 3, fans can visit JunoTribute.ca from their computer or mobile device and upload their very own "Takin' Care of Business" performance. Fans can watch for some of their favourite JUNO-nominated artists and CTV personalities performing the song, and more original content created by JUNO TV (junotv.ca), with exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews and featured chats with BTO fans on the street. Additionally, each week, a selection of submitted videos will be featured on the CTV Facebook page. Uploaded videos will be available on JunoTribute.ca until Feb. 2, 2015. For all things related to THE JUNO AWARDS broadcast, please visit CTV.ca/Junos.
BTO's hit song, "Takin' Care of Business", was released in 1974, and quickly topped the music charts, reaching #12 on the American Billboard singles chart and #3 on Canada's RPM chart. Throughout their career, BTO has received 12 JUNO Award nominations and have won seven JUNO Awards, including Most Promising Group of the Year and Contemporary Album of the Year in 1974, the year "Takin' Care of Business" was released.
The JUNO Tribute Nation online presence was developed by award-winning interactive agency Secret Location and for broadcast by Insight Productions, in association with Bell Media, CARAS, and The Bell Fund.
