CTV News legend Lloyd Robertson to share family story at workplace mental health seminar
On March 26, 2013, experts will help you prepare for workplace stress, depression, alcoholism and more
TORONTO, March 19, 2013 /CNW/ - As a boss, what do you do if an employee is clinically depressed?
To answer that question, and more, the longest-serving national anchorman in Canadian history, Lloyd Robertson, will join mental health experts at EcoLog Legislation's one-day seminar, Building a Mentally Healthy Workplace, on March 26, 2013 at the Allstream Centre in Toronto.
Robertson, 79, grew up with his mother facing several mental health challenges. It's a struggle that he details in his new memoir The Kind of Life it's Been.
"Gradually…I really developed a sense of compassion for her," Robertson told CTV News for the launch of his new book. According to a study from the Mental Health Commission of Canada, one in five Canadians will experience mental illness. It's a reality that costs companies upwards of $33 billion per year in lost productivity.
Sessions at the Building a Mentally Healthy Workplace seminar include defining employers' rights and obligations, solutions to avoiding potential legal liabilities, useful techniques for workplace interventions and legal liability issues surrounding the New CSA Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace standard.
