TORONTO, June 16, 2015 /CNW/ - As the race heats up this summer leading into the 2015 federal election, CTV News announced today it has joined forces with Facebook to offer a truly unique look at the latest in aggregated insights from Canada's leading social network. Beginning today and continuing through the October election, CTV News will be the first to broadcast exclusive Facebook content, providing voters with an added layer of insight throughout the campaign and as they head to the polls to pick the country's next Prime Minister.
Through this partnership, CTV News becomes the premier source for the election insights shared by 20 million people on Facebook in Canada. In addition to reporting those Facebook insights first, CTV News has first access to Facebook experts throughout the campaign and exclusively during election night coverage. Which leaders are pacing in which regions? What topics are dominating the conversation? How are parties and candidates leveraging Facebook, and who has the most engaged fan base? The CTV News audience will get a first look at the aggregate opinions of fellow Canadians on key topics, from the campaign trail to the polls.
"The connection among people on Facebook is strong and their engagement and discourse adds a whole new dimension to coverage we've never accessed before," said Wendy Freeman, President, CTV News. "This is a unique opportunity to combine the country's leaders in news and social engagement to offer insight into what matters to Canadians throughout the campaign."
"Facebook is a place where people go to discover what matters to them, and politics is no exception," said Kevin Chan, Head of Public Policy, Facebook Canada. "With 20 million Canadians active on Facebook each month, the political conversation on the platform is both authentic and wide-ranging and we look forward to sharing interesting insights about the issues that matter to Canadians with CTV viewers,"
"The 2015 Federal Election is sure to be the most 'digital' ever, and social media will play a key role," said Stephanie Wilson Chapin, Senior Director, CTV Digital, News and Entertainment. "Facebook is the biggest social platform in Canada and CTV News properties will tap into it in a way no other media organization can."
