CTV News Properties Receive Top Honours at RTDNA Awards

TORONTO, June 15, 2013 /CNW/ - From a gala event in Toronto this evening, CTV News properties were honoured at the annual RTDNA national conference of Canada's electronic journalists and news managers. CTV NATIONAL NEWS WITH LISA LAFLAMME was once again presented with the distinguished Bert Cannings Award for Best Network Newscast. In total, CTV News received nine awards this evening, bringing the tally of National and Regional RTDNA Awards to 33 for the organization this year.
In addition, CTV News journalists were recognized for individual work at last night's RTDNA President's Gala. Vancouver Island's Hudson Mack was presented with RTDNA's highest honour - the President's Award - highlighting his contributions to electronic journalism. CTV Atlantic News Director Andy LeBlanc was honoured with the Distinguished Service Award in appreciation of his outstanding contributions to RTDNA Canada and electronic journalism. And CTV Atlantic reporter and weekend anchor Kayla Hounsell is the recipient of the 2013 RTDNA Canada President's Fellowship, selected for her work experience, volunteer commitments, and passion for continued growth.

CTV News' highlights from this evening's Gala also include the Gord Sinclair Live Special Events win for CTV News Channel's coverage of the NDP Leadership Convention; the Digital Media Award win by CTVNews.ca for its U.S. Election coverage; and W5's Diversity award recognizing its feature report following the inspiring journey of double amputee Spencer West as he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.
Earlier this week, CTV Vancouver Island was named a recipient of this year's National Edward R. Murrow Award - Investigative Reporting (Small Market Television) for work on the "Wharfside Eatery" investigation. Presented by the American arm of the RTDNA, CTV Vancouver Island was one of only two Canadian outlets recognized this year.
