OTTAWA, Nov. 26, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) is pleased to announce that Ericsson, a world leading provider of technology and services to telecom operators, is a new Program Ambassador for the Wireless AMBER Alerts program. By signing up all corporate cell phones to the program, Ericsson in Canada has become part of a growing network of supporters.
Wireless AMBER Alerts assist law enforcement agencies in providing the public with immediate and up-to-date information about a child's abduction, and to solicit the public's help in the safe and swift return of the child. The program is run in cooperation between Canada's wireless telecommunications industry, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and other AMBER Alert agencies across the country. Launched in 2010, the Wireless AMBER Alerts program allows customers of Canadian wireless service providers to opt-in to receive free AMBER Alerts as text messages on their cell phones.
"Ericsson is a proud ambassador of the Wireless AMBER Alerts program and as an advocate of using technology for good, is committed to supporting our community and the safety of society's youngest citizens," states Mark Henderson, President, Ericsson Canada Inc. "New technology advancements in mobile broadband services are now more than ever playing a vital role in emergency situations."
"CWTA is exceptionally pleased by the leadership shown by Ericsson in its support of the Wireless AMBER Alerts program," said Bernard Lord, President & CEO of CWTA. "Ericsson's commitment to the safety and wellbeing of Canadian children is truly exemplary, and we hope more companies will take the time to sign up for the program."
The completely free Wireless AMBER Alerts program is available to cell phone users in all 10 provinces and three territories. Subscribing is easy to do either online at www.WirelessAMBER.ca, or by texting the keyword AMBER to 26237 directly from your wireless device.
