Cyber Boxing Day Sales Start before Christmas
December 26 is the busiest Online Shopping Day in Canada
TORONTO, Dec. 20, 2013 /CNW/ - eCoupons.ca announced that Cyber Boxing Day, December 26, will once again be the busiest shopping day of the year for Canadian shoppers. More than 100 Canadian retailers are participating in the online version of Boxing Day including Amazon.ca, Banana Republic Canada, Gap Canada, Lenovo Canada, Lowes Canada, Mexx, Indigo and Sears Canada. This year, many online stores will launch Boxing Day sales the weekend before Boxing Day.
Matthew Cheng, founder of eCoupons.ca and creator of CyberBoxingDay.ca said, "Traditionally, Boxing Day sales creep started on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but this year a number of retailers started their Boxing Day sales the weekend before Boxing Day. Retailers hope that early Boxing Day discounting will encourage higher spending."
Similar to "Cyber Monday", eCoupons.ca coined the phrase "Cyber Boxing Day" in 2009 after noticing a spike in traffic for information on Boxing Day online sales. Instead of braving bad weather and crowded shopping malls in the early AM, Canadians can shop online and enjoy Boxing Day Deals from the comfort of their home.
Cheng added, "For the past few years, we've noticed that Canadians will browse throughout Christmas Day and start shopping right after midnight on December 26 once Cyber Boxing Day sales go live."
Cyber Boxing Day Tips:
1) Many Boxing Day sale items will be available both online and in store. Availability will depend on how many items the retailer allots for its online store versus individual brick and mortar stores.
2) Boxing Day Flyers are available on BoxingDay.ca. Before heading out to the store, compare prices online to make sure you're getting a good deal.
3) Generally, online Boxing Day sales go live at midnight Eastern Time on December 26. However, some online retailers start sales at 3am Eastern / 12am Pacific. This depends on the retailer's ecommerce system.
4) Cross Border Online Shopping is very popular amongst Canadians. Boxing Day is the busiest online shopping of the year in the UK as well and U.S. online stores hold After Christmas Clearance Sales.
5) eCoupons or electronic coupons can help save additional money at checkout.
