Canada's online shoppers ready to take advantage of offers
OTTAWA, Nov. 24, 2016 /CNW/ - Canadians are about to fill their online shopping carts like never before, enticed by the roughly 90 per cent of the largest online merchants who offer sales discounts and the one third of the largest merchants who offer free shipping with no restrictions during Cyber Week. Black Friday (November 25) and Cyber Monday (November 28) will generate online orders throughout the week, which starts today and lasts until Wednesday, November 30.
"Cyber Week will generate a phenomenal number of orders this year, and is a big reason we're expecting record-breaking parcel volumes this holiday season," says René Desmarais, Senior Vice-President, Parcels at Canada Post. "A lot of Canadians wait to make their purchases, knowing that Cyber Week deals and promotions will save them money."
Now that more Canadians are frequent and savvy online shoppers, they're watching closely for free shipping and other offers from retailers across Canada, in the U.S. and around the world. In 2015, Canada Post's Cyber Week parcel volumes were 44 per cent higher than the year before. Starting on Cyber Monday, Canada Post expects to deliver one million or more packages every weekday for three-and-a-half weeks, or nearly up to Christmas Eve. It was 2012 before Canadians were shopping online to such an extent that Canada Post delivered one million parcels on a single day for the first time.
