D-Link now shipping Canada's first 802.11ac adapter amplifi™ router and adapter combine to give a full 802.11ac solution
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 22, 2012 /CNW/ - D-Link has shipped the first 802.11ac USB adapter in Canada, giving consumers their first taste of a true 802.11ac solution. The launch of the Wireless AC1200 Dual Band USB Adapter (DWA-182) now allows client devices to benefit from the improved speed that this next-generation wireless technology brings.
Along with the 802.11ac adapter, D-Link is now shipping its amplify Wireless AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Router (DIR-865L), the first in the world to incorporate the latest wireless standard, 802.11ac, with its industry-leading mydlink™ network management technology, ushering in a new age of connectivity and versatility.
As the newest member of D-Link's amplifi™ range of premium networking products, the Wireless AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Router (DIR-865L) delivers the highest levels of home network performance. This makes it ideally suited to media buffs, gamers and households that need high performance to conduct multiple tasks or run many applications over the network at the same time.
The router makes use of the 5GHz frequency band to deliver speeds up to six times faster than that of today's common Wireless N routers*. Furthermore, the dual band capability uses multiple channels to provide wireless speeds of up to 1750 Mbps (1300 Mbps over the 5GHz band plus 450 Mbps over the 2.4GHz band).
Making it a world first, the new device also boasts mydlink™ app-enabled connectivity, which allows users to remotely see all the devices connected to their home network as well as who is trying to access their network to block any intruders. D-Link's SharePort™ Mobile app for iOS and Android™ devices provides access to files and multimedia stored on a USB drive, meaning music, video, and photos can be streamed or transferred from the connected drive to multiple mobile devices.
Pairing this router with D-Link's new Wireless AC1200 Dual Band USB Adapter (DWA-182), means that users can easily upgrade their PCs and notebooks to take full advantage of the faster speeds and features that 802.11ac delivers. The adapter is also backwards compatible with other Wi-Fi standards.
"With the explosion of High-Definition content and availability of faster broadband speeds, combined with the growth in connected devices around the home, people understand the need for more powerful solutions and fast, easy and seamless connectivity," said Lou Reda, General Manager of D-Link.
"As the world's first full 802.11ac solution, we are happy to say that we can provide consumers with the tools they need to get the best home network experience. This solution is perfect for users that want to stream HD and 3D multimedia to multiple wireless devices throughout the home, simultaneously."
The router is backwards compatible with existing wireless devices operating on earlier standards such as 802.11a/b/g/n, and improved coverage is delivered using beamforming technology that sends a targeted stream of data directly from the router to the device, thus increasing range and overcoming obstructions for whole home coverage - when compared with traditional Wireless N devices.
As mobile device usage and rich media consumption grows, users are downloading increasing amounts of data. The boost in wireless transfer speed offered by 802.11ac also allows files to be downloaded more quickly, which delivers a better user experience and improved power efficiency.
In addition to delivering the latest generation of wireless access technology and convenient mydlink™ capabilities, this device packs in all the features and functionality users have come to expect from the award-winning amplifi™ range. This includes true Gigabit routing connectivity, IPv6 support, DLNA capability, intelligent QoS prioritization technology and parental controls, as well as easy setup and installation through D-Link's Quick Router Setup (QRS) app, which allows customers to quickly configure their router using a handy, free mobile app. Also, the Zero Configuration feature lets users easily connect D-Link Cloud Cameras to this, or any, mydlink™-enabled Router by automatically detecting and configuring the newly added device.
