DAN HILL TO PERFORM BENEFIT CONCERT IN EDMONTON
Concert to be held in support of the 9 million Canadians
living with diabetes or prediabetes
TORONTO, Sept. 28 /CNW/ - Grammy and Juno award-winning recording artist and accomplished author, Dan Hill, will be headlining an intimate benefit concert in support of the Canadian Diabetes Association in Edmonton on Friday, October 22 at the Shaw Conference Centre (9797 Jasper Avenue Northwest). Dan has over 100 million combined unit sales for all of his songs including his classic hits "Sometimes When We Touch" and "Can't We Try." He is also a Goodwill Ambassador with the Association and is passionate in his continued support in the fight against diabetes.
"I am excited to be collaborating with the Canadian Diabetes Association on this concert," said Dan Hill. "Diabetes is a global epidemic and it is my hope to bring further attention to the disease by sharing my own experiences of living with type 2 diabetes."
The benefit concert will close the CDA/CSEM Professional Conference and National Annual General Meeting and is anticipated to be an eclectic evening to the day's activities. Accompanying Dan will be singer/songwriter Liz Rodrigues, who has written for artists including Celine Dion and Jennifer Rush and also contributes and performs on Dan's new album "Intimate."

Dan Hill benefit concert tickets are currently available to the general public and can be purchased at diabetes.ca/danhill. General seating is limited. Ticket giveaways will take place throughout September and October in Edmonton in connection with JOE FM 92.5. All proceeds from the concert will be used to help support the more than 9 million Canadians living with diabetes or prediabetes.

Diabetes in Canada
Today, more than 3 million Canadians have diabetes. Over the next decade, another 1.2 million Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with the disease. A further 6 million Canadians have prediabetes. Nearly one in four Canadians either has diabetes or prediabetes. More than 20 Canadians are diagnosed with the disease every hour of every day.
In Canada, the cost of diabetes for 2010 is approximately $12.2 billion, which is an increase of $5.9 billion or nearly double its level in 2000. The cost of the disease is expected to rise by another $4.7 billion by 2020.
