MONTREAL, Oct. 29, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Mr. Normand W. Bernier, Director General of Vanier College is pleased to announce that Mrs. Danielle Lafaille has been named as the college's new Academic Dean. This decision has been approved by Vanier College's Board of Directors following a recommendation by Vanier College's Academic Council.
"I am very pleased to welcome Danielle to Vanier College as our new Academic Dean and I am looking forward to working with her on Vanier's future," said Mr. Bernier. "With close to 20 years of experience in the college network Danielle will surely enrich the academic sector of Vanier. At the same time she will help ensure that the primary mission of our college remains serving our students in the best ways possible since they must always remain at the heart of everything we do."
Mrs. Lafaille will officially begin working at Vanier at the start of January 2015 for a five-year mandate. She holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from the Ecole nationale d'administration publique as well as a Bachelor's degree in pedagogy from the University of Sherbrooke(Quebec).
"My work experiences in both Francophone and Anglophone colleges and my knowledge of the college network have prepared me well for the challenges presented by Vanier. I believe in listening to people, identifying and using their strengths, getting them involved by giving them responsibilities and recognizing the work that is being done. I am interested in developing innovative and flexible educational approaches that will bring pedagogical autonomy to our institutions" said Mrs. Lafaille.
During her career in education, Mrs. Lafaille has worked as a teacher, a pedagogical advisor, and was Assistant Dean at Cégep Limoilou for eight years. As well, she was Academic Dean at Cégep Gerald-Godin from 2010 to 2012 and Director of Studies at Champlain Regional College from 2012 to the present day. In addition she is very active in numerous committees linked to the college network including the Anglo Deans Committee and the Anglo Steering Committee.
Mr. Bernier also highlighted the efforts of Peter Ross, who has acted as interim Academic Dean for the past seven months at Vanier College. "I would like to take this occasion to thank Peter for assuring continuity and maintaining stability in the academic sector. This certainly helped make the interim period run smoothly for all Deans, coordinators, teachers and students," said Mr. Bernier.
