Darwin Durnie is not a professional engineer
EDMONTON, July 31, 2013 /CNW/ - Media reports have incorrectly identified Darwin Durnie as an engineer following his comments about flooding in High River.
Durnie is not licensed as a professional engineer (P.Eng.) and has never been a member of The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta. The terms "engineer" and "professional engineer" are protected titles under Alberta's Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act.
Durnie is a member of the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta. Engineering technologists are not bound by the same mandatory registration process as professional engineers and are not authorized to perform the same work as professional engineers.
Established in 1920, APEGA is responsible for regulating the practices of engineering and geoscience in the province of Alberta. The association's 70,000 members play a significant role in every segment of the economy and their technical and management expertise ensure Alberta remains at the forefront of technological innovation.
