60MC-I module with intelligent shade protection expected to be commercially available by the start of 2H2010
BURNABY, BC, May 4 /CNW/ - Day4 Energy Inc. (TSX: DFE), a leading supplier of high performance, cost-effective solar electric solutions, today announced it has received International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61215 and 61730-2 certification for the 60MC-I module with Guardian Technology.
"There has been strong demand and interest in this unique technology since we first introduced the product in late 2009," says George Rubin, president of Day4 Energy. "We are on track with our full-scale commercial production and with IEC certification now confirmed we expect to complete the first large volume shipments of our already-established frame contracts for the 60MC-I by the start of the second half of this year."
IEC 61215 and 61730-2 are recognized industry standards that verify that the modules have passed the required series of tests and are suitable for long-term operation in a wide range of outdoor climates. These tests examine the important technical requirements for photovoltaic modules, namely reliability, durability, efficiency, electrical safety and performance degradation over time. IEC certification for photovoltaic modules is a requirement for sales into the European market.
The company first announced the introduction of the 60MC-I module with Guardian Technology on September 14, 2009. Guardian Technology dramatically improves the performance of the photovoltaic (PV) modules when exposed to partial shading, snow, debris and other external factors that under normal circumstances cause a substantial reduction in power yield. As a direct result, Day4 60MC-I modules with Guardian Technology are three times less sensitive to these external factors. They also offer as much as 25 percent greater power yield from the same installation area due to higher installation density and provide a higher energy yield (kilowatt-hours per year per dollar invested) when compared to standard module designs. Additionally, Guardian Technology enables viable PV installations on many sites that have been previously considered not suitable for this purpose.
