Deadline extended for community newspapers and other previously ineligible news organizations to apply for eligibility to compete for National Newspaper Awards Français
- Applications must be received by Jan. 7
- Deadline to enter 2018 NNA competition remains Jan. 15
TORONTO, Dec. 31, 2018 /CNW/ - Community newspapers and other non-broadcast organizations that publish original content online most days have been granted one additional week to apply for eligibility to compete in the 2018 National Newspaper Awards.
Revisions to contest rules approved by the organization's Board of Governors in September included a provision to open the competition to community newspapers provided that they publish original content (in print or online) at least five days a week. The provision also applied to digital-only news organizations that publish at least five days a week. As in the past, the competition is not open to organizations whose primary purpose and/or primary source of revenue are television or radio broadcasting; magazine publishing; or publishing that is less frequent than five days a week.
To determine eligibility of organizations seeking to enter the competition for the first time, NNA Governors approved the establishment of a formal process that required organizations to submit responses to a questionnaire before December 1. In response to requests for consideration received after the deadline, that application process has been reopened on a one-time basis for one additional week.
Organizations that meet the requirements and want to be considered for eligibility now have until Monday, January 7, at 1 p.m. ET to submit a completed questionnaire. Successful applicants will be notified by 5 p.m. ET on January 8.
To obtain a questionnaire or additional information, contact NNA Executive Director Paul Woods ([email protected]).
The contest has been open to entries since December 15 and will remain open until January 15. The 2018 competition covers work published between January 1 and December 31, 2018.
