Delsan-AIM announces agreement with Shell to purchase equipment at former Montreal East Refinery Français
MONTREAL, Oct. 2, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Delsan-AIM Environmental Services Inc. announced today it has agreed with Shell Canada to purchase the 'above ground' assets at Shell's former Montreal East Refinery.
The agreement will see Delsan-AIM, a leading environmental services company based out of Montreal and with extensive decommissioning and demolition expertise, acquire the above-ground assets and take the lead role in the dismantling and demolition of the Refinery. Marketable vessels, piping and other refining equipment will be sold by Delsan-AIM for re-use elsewhere in the world, or recycled through the company's metals recovery system.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"This agreement provides Delsan-AIM an exciting opportunity to not only demonstrate our demolition capabilities and environmental management system, but recover refinery assets that can be used elsewhere," said Herbert Black, principal of Delsan-AIM Environmental Services Inc. "We're confident that we are well suited for a job of this magnitude and we're eager to get started immediately."
Shell said it is pleased that their search for the right fit brought them to an environmental services company only a few kilometres away.
"Delsan-AIM met all our criteria for this project," said Nick Vecchiarelli, Shell Project Manager. "They have demonstrated top-notch performance on other similar ventures, and they have the expertise and know-how to be able to execute this project safely and flawlessly."
Dismantling and demolition work is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2012 with an expected completion date of late 2014. As Delsan-AIM is situated just a few kilometres down the Metropolitan Expressway, residents can expect limited truck traffic during the project.
Remediation at the Montreal East Refinery lands is tentatively planned to commence in the spring of 2013, as Delsan-AIM's demolition work progresses. Shell continues to actively work with municipal officials on a long-term re-development plan for the properties.
