CALGARY, Jan. 13, 2017 /CNW/ - dentalcorp, Canada's largest network of dental practices, today committed a $150,000 sponsorship to The Alex Dental Health Bus, ensuring the continuation of important dental care services free of charge for children and families in need in Calgary. In addition to the sponsorship dollars and the volunteer efforts of its dentist partners and teams, dentalcorp has also partnered with Henry Schein, Inc, the world's largest provider of health care products, to raise another $80,000 in supplies and equipment to support the Dental Health Bus.
The Alex Dental Health Bus visits children and youth at schools in identified high-need areas. Services include oral health screenings, sealants and fluoride treatments as well as oral health education and instruction.
"The Dental Health bus is always facing funding pressure and we are grateful for dentalcorp's generous support which will be a valuable contribution towards the bus's operating costs" said Denise Kokaram, Program Lead for the Alex Dental Health Bus. "Together with continued sponsorship from existing donors and fundraising efforts the Dental Health Bus team and professional volunteers will continue to care for patients who cannot afford dental services."
"Our dentist partners and teams are generous, compassionate members of their communities, and this is our collective way of giving back and using our resources to lend a hand to those who need it," said dentalcorp CEO Graham Rosenberg.
Patients receiving services through The Alex Dental Health Bus are also eligible to attend a Dental Access Clinic which is provided by dental practices in the area on a volunteer basis. Dr. Craig Young and his team at Orijin Integrated Dentistry will provide the first clinic in 2017 this Sunday.
"My partnership with dentalcorp provides me and my practice with the resources and flexibility to give back to our community that we didn't have before," said Dr. Young. "Calgary is our home. No one should have their health compromised, or be left in pain just because they lack resources. There is not one dentist that I know that would not help someone in need. The Alex Dental Health Bus is one of the few and very important ways individuals who lack resources can access much required care and attention."
Mr. Rosenberg continued, "The Alex Dental Health Bus and supporting team provides a tremendous service to the Calgary community. dentalcorp is fortunate to be able to leverage our scale and network in support of this great cause. We encourage others to contribute any way that they can."
