MONTREAL, Nov. 5, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Desjardins Group launches its new Facebook page, Ma Zone D, for teenagers between 13 and 17 years old, and teams up with Simple Plan for the launch of their new contest, On Stage with Simple Plan and Desjardins.
Using real life situations, Ma Zone D will inform teenagers on subjects that relate to them, such as good saving habits and personal finance management. Youth programs will also be presented, and Ma Zone D managers will answer questions online.
The On Stage with Simple Plan and Desjardins contest invites young singer-songwriters from Quebec and Ontario between the ages of 13 and 17 to submit a video clip of an original music performance. Starting December 21 2012, the general public will be asked to vote for their favourite video clip through the Ma Zone D Facebook page to select the 25 best entries.
Fondation Desjardins will award the winner, chosen by a jury made up of Desjardins representatives and the members of Simple Plan, a $5,000 bursary to pursue a musical project. Another $5,000 bursary will be donated to a community project chosen by the winner. Visit Ma Zone D Facebook page under the contest heading for contest rules.
"Financial education has always been part of Desjardins's mission; the caisse scolaire program has been in existence for over 100 years. Today, we are present in 77% of schools across Quebec and Ontario through our school and student caisse programs. Every year, Fondation Desjardins awards close to $2 million in bursaries to encourage youths to stay committed to their careers and studies, and to follow their dreams. In this, we share a common vision, a common cause, and a common public with the Simple Plan Foundation, making our partnership an obvious one", states Louise-Marie Brousseau, Director of Fondation Desjardins.
"From the start, we quickly realized that being in a band involved more than just being playing fun shows and writing good songs. We had to empower ourselves with knowledge and learn about the business side of the music industry. We understood quickly that planning and discipline were essential parts of being a successful band and we made sure to incorporate those principles in our career. That's one of the reasons why we were happy to team up with Desjardins Group which offers young people financial tips and advices for their projects through the Ma Zone D Facebook page. Additionally, we are extremely happy to help out and support young artists who represent the future of music by the launch of the "On Stage with Simple Plan and Desjardins" contest. Finally, social action and charitable work are at the heart of the Simple Plan Foundation's mission and it's with great pleasure that we agreed to work together with Fondation Desjardins to encourage the youth of Québec and Ontario to get involved in their communities and help people who need it the most", states Chuck Comeau, member of Simple Plan.
