LÉVIS, QC, Oct. 2, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Desjardins Group's 2011 Social and Cooperative Responsibility Report is now available on its website at www.desjardins.com/socialresponsibilityreport.
The report is based on Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) performance indicators and presents Desjardins Group's governance, sustainable development and social responsibility initiatives. Numerous concrete examples of the Desjardins difference are presented throughout the report, raising awareness and garnering recognition for the social and environmental performance of Canada's top corporate citizen, according to Corporate Knights.
The 2011 Social and Cooperative Responsibility Report shows all the ways that Desjardins is different from other financial institutions, such as the democratic governance assumed by its members, the socially responsible financial products (microcredit, green discounts, ethical investment funds), the amount of scholarships and bursaries awarded by Fondation Desjardins, the number of countries where Développement international Desjardins is active, and the amount paid out in donations and sponsorships and to the Community Development Fund, to name only a few.
"Our social responsibility underpins our resolve to be creators of sustainable development as we work to balance economic, social and environmental imperatives. It is an extension of what distinguishes us as a cooperative financial group," stated Monique F. Leroux, Chair of the Board, President and CEO.
