Destiny Media Technologies Announces Progress with Key Clipstream® and Play MPE® Related Patents
VANCOUVER, Nov. 3, 2014 /CNW/ - Destiny Media Technologies (TSXV: DSY) (OTCQX: DSNY) is pleased to announce progress with two of its pending patent applications.
On September 24, 2014, the European Patent Office which administers patents under the European Patent Convention (having over 30 member countries) granted Destiny's European patent application number 07815972.0 (now granted patent No. 2082527) entitled Methods for Watermarking Media Data. This European patent asserts a priority date of October 2006. This European patent is now entering the validation phase, where the European patent is validated in individual European countries.
The claims of this European patent cover Destiny's watermarking technology, which embeds inaudible digital information into music and the audio track of video content. This technology, which is used in the Company's Play MPE® secure media delivery system, is unique in that it can't be filtered out without destroying sound quality and it is extremely robust, surviving compression and conversion to other formats including non-digital formats.
Corresponding patents covering Destiny's watermarking technology have already issued in the United States (US patent No. 7983441 - granted July 2011; and US patent No. 8300885 - granted October 2012) and in Japan (Japanese patent No. 5103479 – granted October 2012). A US continuation application and a Canadian patent application covering Destiny's watermarking technology remain pending.
Destiny also reported that on October 14, 2014, it received an office action from the United States Patent and Trademark Office in connection with one of its United States patent applications. The Office Action identified an allowable claim for technology used in the company's Clipstream® cross platform, secure, playerless streaming video technology. The company intends to pursue the allowable subject matter and to procure allowance of this patent application.
This United States Clipstream® related patent application is one of seven pending US patent applications that cover Destiny's streaming video technology. The provisional application was filed in August 17, 2011. A corresponding Patent Cooperation Treaty application covering the streaming video technology was filed in May 2012 and has resulted in national phase patent applications which are pending in Canada, Europe, Russia, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, India, Israel, Singapore, South Africa, and Hong Kong.
"We continue to make important progress in building our global IP portfolio," said Steve Vestergaard, CEO of Destiny Media Technologies. "Obtaining these additional patents will further strengthen Play MPE® as the industry standard in the secure music delivery business, and provide a defensible position as we commercialize our Clipstream® streaming video technology."
