DGC kicks off TIFF with "Top 15" new filmmakers list
Discovery Award Long List highlights emerging Directors this festival season
TORONTO, Sept. 5, 2017 /CNW/ - The Directors Guild of Canada announced the 15 nominees for the 2017 DGC Discovery Award from eOne Headquarters in Toronto this morning. The Discovery Long List was presented by DGC National Directors Division Chair Warren P. Sonoda and Discovery Jury Chair Ingrid Veninger.

"These directors are all part of a new wave in Canadian cinema," said Sonoda. "They are the daring, intense, sometimes hilarious filmmakers, whose names you're going to hear people buzzing about at TIFF and festivals across the country this fall."
"The Discovery nominees are the 15 new directors to watch for this festival season," said Veninger. "These are exciting new voices you don't want to miss."

The 16th edition of the DGC Awards will be presented at the annual Gala on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at The Carlu in Toronto. Hosted by Mary Walsh with special guests soon to be announced.

The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) is a national labour organization that represents over 5,000 key creative and logistical personnel in the screen-based industry covering all areas of direction, design, production and editing. The DGC negotiates and administers collective agreements and lobbies extensively on issues of concern for members including Canadian content conditions, CRTC regulations and ensuring that funding is maintained for Canadian screen-based programming.
