Diabetes conference looks to improve the lives of Canadians
VANCOUVER, Oct. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - Experts from around the world are gathering in Vancouver tomorrow through Saturday, October 13, at the Vancouver Convention Centre for the 15th Annual Conference of the Canadian Diabetes Association/Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism. As the largest diabetes conference in Canada, health professionals, researchers and industry partners are gathering to share innovations and discuss the latest research findings aimed at helping to improve the lives of those with diabetes and ultimately find a cure.
In comparison to its OECD peer countries, Canada has one of the highest rates of diabetes with more than nine million people living with diabetes and prediabetes. Canada also has the third-highest rate of diabetes-related mortality among these countries.
The conference has attracted over 2,000 delegates from across North America and focuses on a range of diabetes-related topics including obesity, Aboriginal populations, women and diabetes, best practices in diabetes management, novel cell-based treatments and new insights into the impact of diabetes on organ functions.
Canadian country music artist George Canyon will also speak about his personal battle with diabetes at 9a.m. on Saturday.

Media wishing to attend the conference are invited to register in advance to ensure quicker access to the conference.
