The company issued this voluntary recall after its ongoing quality assurance process detected quality issues with some bottles that could cause small glass fragments to break off and fall inside. The affected bottles came from a third-party glass manufacturer that supplies bottles to the company for use in Canada.
In an abundance of caution, Diageo Canada is recalling all of the above lot codes, although the company believes that significantly less than one percent of these bottles are impacted. The company has not received any reports from consumers relating to the impacted bottles.
After discovering the issue, the company immediately notified the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and began notifying and working with its broker and customers to arrange for all potentially impacted bottles to be removed from retail. The company is also working with the glass supplier to resolve their production issue.
Consumers who have purchased the particular Smirnoff Ice flavors listed above on or after July 24, 2015 should check to see if any of their purchases match the flavors and lot codes in the table above. Lot codes are located on the shoulder of the bottle. Consumers with matching lot codes should call 866-915-5949 or email [email protected] for instructions about reimbursement for the product.
