Discovery Air Defence Participates in Exercise CUTLASS FURY 16 over the Atlantic
MONTREAL, Sept. 27, 2016 /CNW/ - Discovery Air Defence Services Inc. ("DA Defence"), a wholly owned subsidiary of Discovery Air Inc., recently participated in Exercise CUTLASS FURY 16, a multinational anti-submarine warfare (ASW) exercise led by the Royal Canadian Navy. DA Defence's fleet of Alpha Jets and Westwind special mission aircraft join Canadian and allied ships and aircraft conducting ASW training off the coast of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. As a highly-experienced combat support provider to the Canadian Armed Forces, DA Defence aircraft and crews flew more than 180 sorties on various missions including anti-ship warfare training, electronic warfare, threat replication and target tow.
"Discovery Air Defence is providing a variety of services to CUTLASS FURY 16, from electronic warfare to the simulation of fighter jets and missiles. These contracted services allow for a realistic training environment that enhances the skills of all participants," said Captain (Navy) Craig Skjerpen, Commander Task Group 301.1 for CUTLASS FURY 16.
"Discovery Air Defence is proud to support the RCN and NATO partners in this Task Group-level Joint maritime exercise," said James Preston Manning, Vice President of Contracted Airborne Training Services. "Our Alpha Jets and Westwinds flew daily missions as the enemy force, replicating threat aircraft and missile systems probing and simulating attacks against surface combatants and CF-18 aircraft. Our pilots flew with RCAF Electronic Warfare Officers onboard and exercised the abilities of warships and CF-18s to detect, identify, warn and engage airborne targets."
DA Defence and its U.S. subsidiary, Top Aces, have the world's largest privately-held, operating fleet of fighter aircraft. The training provided supports the operational readiness of both current and future generation fighter aircraft.
