Leading Independent ISP Reduces Rates and Offers New Unlimited Plans in Quebec, Commends Government on Supporting Competition
MONTREAL, Jan. 31, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Distributel Communications is pleased to announce that effective February 1, 2012, it will introduce new low-cost unlimited plans for Internet users in Quebec and reduce overage charges on its existing plans by more than 60%. Base rates for existing plans will stay at their current low levels. One of the largest independent Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the province, Distributel is bucking the industry trend by absorbing bandwidth costs as a November 15th CRTC Decision comes into effect.
"Distributel will continue to put its customers first no matter which Internet plan they choose," said Mel Cohen, President of Distributel. "We couldn't have offered these new unlimited plans if the original UBB structure had been left in place; I commend the CRTC and the government for making a stand in support of competition. Ultimately, the winners are consumers. "
Distributel's new unlimited plans, starting at $37.95 per month, are significantly more affordable than other comparable plans currently available in Quebec. Furthermore, existing customers on Distributel's 15 Mbps plan will receive a notification that their plan is now unlimited, whereas there previously was a 90 GB cap. Customers on existing 3 Mbps or 8 Mbps plans will experience a reduction in the rate they pay for data transfer in excess of their limit, from $4.50 to $1.50 per GB.
For over 20 years, Distributel has been a trusted provider of residential telecom services like Internet, home phone and long distance services in Ontario and Quebec and recently began offering its unlimited high-speed Internet service in Western Canada (Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Richmond and Surrey). The Company now boasts hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers and is one of the largest IP networks in the country.
