Dive into data at #CAJ14
OTTAWA, April 21, 2014 /CNW/ - Canada's leading data journalists will tantalize data-hungry delegates with their newest tips and tricks at #CAJ14.
CBC News' David McKie and King's College journalism professor Fred Vallance-Jones – along with other special guests – will team up to lead a 1.5-day workshop that will focus on the power of unlocking data and mapping it. The award-winning journalists will be joined Saturday by an expert from Esri Canada, distributors of ArcGIS, and by other special guests.
The workshop covers how to get the data, clean it, analyze it—all the way to mapping it. It will provide a sound starting point for all journalists who want to start using reams of data to help them tell better stories. This 1.5-day workshop continues the CAJ's established tradition of being a consistent source for leading-edge skills training for working journalists.
#CAJ14 runs May 9-10 at the Holiday Inn and Suites Downtown Vancouver. The 1.5-day data-journalism sessions will take place at this venue. Space is limited to 30 people and you must advise us of your interest when registering. Registration is open, with rates for CAJ members starting at $239 plus taxes.
This year's conference keynotes include the Bergen Record's Shawn Boburg, Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn At-in-chut Atleo and CBC News' Mellissa Fung. Other sessions include workshops on Twitter and ScribbleLive, the launch and a plenary around reporting on mental illness and business journalism.
The full conference program is available at the CAJ's website.
The Canadian Association of Journalists is a professional organization with over 600 members across Canada. The CAJ's primary roles are public-interest advocacy work and professional development for its members.
