OTTAWA, April 25, 2013 /CNW/ - Canada's leading data journalists will tantalize data-hungry delegates with their newest tips and tricks at #CAJ2013.
CBC News' David McKie, the Ottawa Citizen's Glen McGregor and King's College journalism professor Fred Vallance-Jones will team up to lead an all-day workshop at Carleton University that will focus on the power of mapping. The three award-winning journalists will be joined Saturday by an expert from Esri Canada, distributors of ArcGIS.
From how to get the data, clean it, analyze it—all the way to mapping it—this workshop will provide a sound starting point for all journalists who want to start using reams of data to help them tell better stories. From a teaser session at the conference venue to this 1.5-day workshop, this trio of volunteers continue the CAJ's established tradition of being a consistent source for leading-edge skills training for working journalists.
#CAJ2013 runs May 3-5 at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa. We are proud to be partnered with Newspapers Canada's Ink&Beyond, which runs at the same venue from May 1-3. CAJ and Newspapers Canada delegates can access the same programming on Friday, May 3.
The conference offers three days of speakers, panels and workshops designed to appeal to journalists working in every medium. As part of the conference, the CAJ Awards will be announced May 4 at a gala and banquet hosted by CBC News Network and CBC Radio One host Evan Solomon. Tickets to the gala are included with most full-conference registration and standalone tickets can be purchased through the link above. We've also organized a pub night on Friday, May 3, for those not attending the National Newspaper Awards and for somewhere to head after the NNAs.
The full conference program is available at the CAJ's website.
The Canadian Association of Journalists is a professional organization with over 500 members across Canada. The CAJ's primary roles are public-interest advocacy work and professional development for its members.
