CHARLOTTETOWN, July 24, 2014 /CNW/ - July 28th to August 3rd promises to be an exciting and diverse week in the PEI 2014 Celebration Zone. The week will see performances by comedians, circus performers, spoken word artists, and plenty of incredible musical performers. Many of the artists performing this week are from the Northern region of Canada including Juno Award-winner, Leela Gilday.
"I'm so excited to play in Prince Edward Island and to bring a taste of the north to the Maritimes," says Gilday. "Also, because I have played in every province and territory except for PEI, this will be a very special trip. I'm very curious to see your beautiful province!"
Gilday will perform as part of the Women of the North along with Inuk throat singer, Sylvia Cloutier and folk artist, Dyiet. Other performers from Canada's north include innovative Iqaluit band, The Jerry Cans; interactive culinary and theatrical production, A Taste of the Wildcat; Yellowknife singer-songwriter, Digawolf; Yukon-born bluesman, Brandon Isaak; and spoken word artist, Pat Braden.
"We're very excited to have a number of artists from Canada's North performing in the Celebration Zone July 28th to August 3rd," says PEI 2014 Executive Director, Penny Walsh McGuire. "Since Canada Day the Celebration Zone has hosted many tremendous artists from all over Canada. We encourage all Islanders and visitors to visit the PEI 2014 Celebration Zone to discover these amazing artists."
In partnership with Congres Mondial Acadien, PEI 2014 is proud to present Circus Stella at the PEI 2014 Celebration Zone. Circus Stella is a circus troupe made up of performers from New Brunswick and Quebec. These acrobatic stilt walkers who incorporate circus, theatre and dance will give several different performances and conduct workshops throughout the week.
Juno Award-winner and PEI native, Rose Cousins will perform with a number of special guests. There will also be a Fiddle Summit featuring PEI fiddlers, JJ Chaisson, Cynthia MacLeod and Karine Gallant; and a performance by Nova Scotia-born comedian, Darryl Purvis.
