Why: Proceeds support Dixon Hall's vital food programs
TORONTO, Feb. 26, 2018 /CNW/ - Dixonlicious, Dixon Hall's signature food-focused fundraising event returns for its fourth consecutive year on Thursday, March 1st at Daniels Spectrum from 6:00PM – 9:00PM. The event gives guests the opportunity to experience an eclectic mix of offerings from some incredible local restaurants, each paired with a signature 'sip'. Funds raised at the event support Dixon Hall and its vital community food programs, including Meals on Wheels, snacks and meals for children and youth at summer and March Break camps, and community meals for homeless men and women.
Annually, Dixon Hall's food programs serve more than 200,000 meals. Community members who access these programs are facing a number of challenges including food security, social isolation, physical and mental health issues, and precarious housing and employment. Access to food is an important first step in order to stabilize an individual's environment and start to address some of the other challenges they might be facing.
"Dixon Hall's community meal programs are an essential service for men and women who are working to re-build their lives after being homeless. They give vulnerable people a supportive environment where they can share a meal, have a conversation, enjoy one another's company, and develop crucial life skills related to cooking and meal preparation. For struggling community members, being able to come to Dixon Hall on a weekly basis and have dinner or breakfast in the company of a supportive staff and peer group is hugely beneficial," said David Reycraft, Director of Housing Services.
"It's important that we continue to support men and women once they move out of the shelter into transitional housing. After leaving the shelter, our clients continue to rely on us to help them maintain their housing. Community meals ensure that people with very limited incomes have somewhere to turn when the end of the month comes and they have no money left to buy groceries. These programs mean that people don't have to choose between paying rent or putting food on the table."
Dixonlicious is presented by RBC and is also generously supported by Dream Ltd., pwc, Freedom Mobile and The Daniels Corporation.
This year's event features signature bites by the following restaurant partners: Biff's Bistro, Barrio Cerveceria, Daniel et Daniel, Paintbox Bistro, Hooked, Longo's, The Food Dudes, Hawthorne Food & Drink, Skin + Bones, and Dixon Hall's social enterprise, The Show Love Café. Beverages are provided by Brickworks Ciderhouse, Lost Craft Brewing Co., Karlo Estates Winery, SoCIAL LITE Vodka, Walter Craft Caesar, and Freshed Right.
This year's goal is to raise $100,000 to support Dixon Hall and its community food programs.
