Physicians across Canada Take the World Health Day Challenge
TORONTO, March 25, 2015 /CNW/ - This World Health Day, on April 7th, physicians and health care professionals will demonstrate their commitment to overcoming poverty in Africa by supporting Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief's (CPAR's) 10th Annual World Health Day Challenge.
The World Health Day Challenge has garnered the support of physicians, and a wide variety of health professionals. These health care professionals believe that the global community has a part to play in supporting health and development beyond the geographic boundaries of their communities – especially in rural Africa.
World Health Day Challenge 2015, will support CPAR's WASH projects- Clean Water, Improved Sanitation and Hygiene.
CPAR's World Health Day Challenge is partly inspired by the efforts of Dr. N. Kevin Wade, a Vancouver-based ophthalmologist who donated an entire day of his medical service payment plans to CPAR in September 2002.
Long-time CPAR supporter and Toronto-based psychiatrist, Dr. Donald Payne is also taking up the cause. "Having personally seen how efficiently and effectively CPAR uses local people and local resources to improve the health of communities in Africa, I believe the most useful way for me to assist communities in Africa is to donate a day's pay to CPAR's work."
CPAR supports community efforts to address determinants of health through access to clean water and adequate food, better hygiene and sanitation, creation of secure livelihoods and improved access to primary health care.
Each year on April 7th, the world celebrates World Health Day. On this day around the globe, thousands of events mark the importance of health in leading a productive life.
