EDMONTON, May 3, 2012 /CNW/ - The Board of Directors of EPCOR Utilities Inc. (EPCOR) today announced that EPCOR President & Chief Executive Officer Don Lowry has informed the Board of his intention to retire from his position effective December 2013.
"I'm exceptionally proud of what EPCOR has been able to do as a company over the last 13 years," said Lowry. "The credit goes to our people and the oversight provided by our Board. It has been an exciting and extraordinary period of time and I am grateful for the opportunity provided to me by the Board and our shareholder, the City of Edmonton. However, the time has come for me to move to the next stage of my career and my plans are to expand upon my role as a Board Director and selectively pursue other business opportunities as they appear."
"Don has been an extraordinary asset for EPCOR since he became CEO," said EPCOR Board Chair Hugh J. Bolton. "Under his leadership, we have made a series of successful strategic investments in Alberta and across North America, cultivated an exceptionally strong executive and management team, and developed an enviable corporate culture that values giving back to the community and caring for our environment."
Lowry's announcement activates a long-established CEO succession plan the EPCOR Board of Directors has developed and refined in recent years. "The timing of Don's announcement allows us to engage in an orderly, thorough recruitment process for our new CEO," said Bolton. "We will be looking internally, locally, nationally and internationally for a candidate that reflects the significant opportunities EPCOR has positioned itself to pursue."
Leading up to his December 2013 departure, Lowry will remain as President & CEO, continuing to focus on advancing EPCOR's strategic priorities while working with the Board and Executive team to ensure a seamless leadership transition process.
