Door-to-door canvassers not sanctioned by Children's Wish
ST.JOHN'S, NL, Feb. 15, 2012 /CNW/ - The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter has received several reports of door-to-door canvassers purporting to be collecting donations on behalf of the Foundation in different St. John's neighbourhoods during the last two weeks. The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada does not solicit funds through door-to-door initiatives. On occasion, participants in a pledge-based fundraising event, such as Wishmaker Walk for Wishes, may ask friends and neighbours to pledge or sponsor their efforts, however, in those instances; the individual should have an event pledge form.
Members of the public are asked to report suspected fraudulent fundraising activities to the local police. The public can also confirm the legitimacy of a fundraising event in support of Children's Wish by contacting the Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter at (709) 739-9553.
The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada
Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of three and 17 are diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Since 1984, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to 18,000 children and their families.
This year, the Foundation expects to grant over 1,000 new wishes and is proud to have never refused a wish to an eligible child, and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day. Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family. The Foundation is a national charity with chapters in every province and territory.
