Giro d'Italia Winner Set to Race His Cannondale SuperSix
EXCHANGESTSX: DII.B, DII.A
MONTREAL, Sept. 9 /CNW Telbec/ - Giro d'Italia champion and Team Liquigas-Doimo rider Ivan Basso will be in Canada for the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal with his Cannondale SuperSix Hi-MOD. The Quebec race is tomorrow while Montreal's is this Sunday. It is the first time that two North American races have been added to the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) ProTour. Cannondale is a premium brand of the Cycling Sports Group, a division of Dorel Industries (TSX: DII.B, DII.A).
"I'm thrilled to have won the 5th Giro d'Italia title for Cannondale. I've trained hard, and I am determined to give it my all in Canada! I'm delighted to be coming to Montreal. From what I have heard it is a great city for cyclists and I look forward to experiencing this first hand," commented Basso.
Basso's Road Racing Tips:
Inspired by the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal and de Quebec, road racing is easier to get into then you may think. Here are five tips from Ivan Basso, recent winner of the Giro d'Italia.
1. Get a bike that's designed for road racing and supports your performance levels. I ride the SuperSix offered by Cannondale because it's great in different types of conditions, from the steepest climbs to the sharpest turns. 2. Find a local cycling club. Road racing is a team sport and it's important that you learn early on how to race within a team and know the rules of the road. 3. Train smart. Just before a race, taper your training and rest so that you're ready to compete. 4. Remember that there's a beginning, middle and end to the race. Start slow and pace yourself. Even if you're in the best of shape, cycling uses different muscles than other endurance sports and your body will need time to adapt to perform at optimal levels. 5. Ride with passion.
About The Bike
The Cannondale SuperSix is the lightest, stiffest carbon road frame in Cannondale's line of bicycles, boasting the ultimate in pedaling efficiency, super comfort and refined handling. New carbon-fabrication methods shave the complete frame weight to only 900 grams in a 56 cm size, 150 grams lighter than earlier SuperSix models.
The frame construction boasts a monocoque front triangle for the best possible performance from each tube. Separate seat and chain stay layups are mitered and then overwrapped to front triangle for maximum stiffness. The absence of lugs achieves a lighter frame weight without losing power transfer, while retaining the unique "Cannondale feel".
