TORONTO, June 14, 2016 /CNW/ - OCAD University has appointed Dr. Gillian Siddall as Vice-President, Academic and Provost, effective July 1, 2016. Reporting to and working closely with the President as a member of the executive team, Siddall is responsible for the overall academic enterprise of the university, including academic planning and the academic priorities of the university's strategic plan. She is actively providing direction for academic relations, leading the revision of the Institutional Quality Assurance Process (IQAP) and serving as Vice-Chair of Senate.
Siddall holds an Honours BA and MA from the University of Guelph in English, as well as a PhD from the University of Western Ontario, with a dissertation titled "'Two Kinds of Geography': Complicity and Resistance in Canadian Pioneer Literature." Prior to joining OCAD U as Interim Vice-President, Academic, she was Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Lakehead University, following prior roles as founding Director of Lakehead's Instructional Development Centre and Coordinator of the Graduate Program in English. With a significant record of publication and research grants, she has extensive undergraduate and graduate teaching experience at Lakehead University, where she was appointed as a member of the English Department in 1998. Siddall is also a jazz vocalist and has published extensively on the topic of musical improvisation, both within and outside a literary context. Her latest book, co-edited with Dr. Ellen Waterman and published this spring by Duke University Press, is entitled Negotiated Moments: Improvisation, Sound, and Subjectivity.

In her role, Siddall will provide direction and support to the faculties of Art, Design, and Liberal Arts & Sciences, as well as Graduate Studies, the OCAD University Senate and its standing committees, the Centre for Innovation in Art & Design Education, and the departmental areas of Library Services and Student Affairs. She will oversee OCAD University's initiatives in experiential and online learning.
