Dr. Marie Battiste is one of the world's foremost scholars on Indigenous people's education and in her new book, Decolonizing Education: Nourishing their Learning Spirits, she shares stories of inspiration, activism and reveals a heart set on developing a great public awareness of the Indigenous people's experience in our education system.
EDMONTON, March 5, 2014 /CNW/ - In a series of talks and public engagements starting on March 8th, Dr. Marie Battiste, distinguished visitor from the University of Saskatchewan, will visit with students, professors and community leaders from the University of Alberta and the city of Edmonton to share lessons learned from the creation of her latest book.

She will share inspirations of events, people, and activism that have taken her across the country in developing awareness of Indigenous peoples and the injustices and inequities that have unfolded in education and the devastating impacts on them.
"From my research and writing and continuing community based activism in my communities, I will share the key features of educational policy and practice that must undergo substantive reform, including eliminating racism and repositioning of Indigenous knowledge and humanities as new frames for a just society," says Battiste.
