Dr. Norman B. Keevil to receive Ernst & Young's Lifetime Achievement award at October 4 gala

Chairman of Teck Resources Limited honoured by Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year^®

VANCOUVER, Sept. 27, 2012 /CNW/ - Ernst & Young is proud to honour Dr. Norman B. Keevil, Chairman of Teck Resources Limited, with the Entrepreneur Of The Year 2012 Pacific Lifetime Achievement award for his significant contributions to BC's business community. He will receive the honour at the Vancouver gala on October 4.

"Ernst & Young's Lifetime Achievement award was made for business leaders like Dr. Norman B. Keevil," says Ron Voyer, Pacific Director of Entrepreneur Of The Year. "Dr. Keevil's outstanding entrepreneurial achievements and leadership have left a lasting impact on Canada's mining industry."

Dr. Keevil's entrepreneurial drive has grown Teck from a few small gold mines in Ontario and Quebec to a company with operations across Canada and, in more recent years, in Australia, Chile, Peru and the United States. Teck is now the world's largest zinc producer.

"Dr. Keevil's business achievements are matched only by his community involvement," says Voyer. "His contributions to education are an inspiration and example to the next generation of entrepreneurs."

Dr. Keevil is an ongoing supporter of the Mineral Deposits Research Unit at the University of British Columbia (UBC), as well as the founder of the Norman B. Keevil Chair in Mineral Exploration at UBC, the Teck Chair in Exploration Geophysics at the University of Toronto, and a scholarship fund at the University of Western Ontario.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Lifetime Achievement award is about more than just recognition. It's about moral philanthropy.
