The appointment was unanimously approved at the last general assembly. "Given the current shift in the life sciences business model, Dr. Hudson's contribution will be pivotal to Génome Québec's development and growth. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work together again on bringing the benefits of genomics to the community," Martin Godbout explained.
A Saguenay native, Dr. Hudson is President and Scientific Director of the Ontario Institute for Cancer and professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto. Moreover, Dr. Hudson was one of the founders of the International HapMap Consortium, the Public Population Project in Genomics (P3G) and the International Cancer Genome Consortium. His current research work involves the study of genome variations that affect cancer predisposition, progression and response to therapy, with his main focus being on the genetic architecture associated with the risk for colorectal cancer.
According to Dr. Hudson, Québec is home to exceptional researchers who rank among the world's best. "Having experienced it for myself, I understand the major impact an organization like Génome Québec can have on a researcher's career. Québec is looking to enter the era of personalized medicine, which will place genomics at the centre of its strategic priorities. I would like to contribute to Québec's success, so that we can continue producing the best science possible, with our ultimate goal of making a real difference in people's quality of life."
