Dr. Vicky J Sharpe Appointed to the QUEST Board of Directors
OTTAWA, March 27, 2015 /CNW/ - QUEST - Quality Urban Energy Systems of Tomorrow, announced today the appointment of Dr. Vicky J. Sharpe to its Board of Directors.
QUEST is a non-profit organization that conducts research, engagement and advocacy to advance Smart Energy Communities in Canada. Smart Energy Communities are all about improving energy efficiency, enhancing reliability, cutting costs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Dr. Sharpe is a long term champion of integrating the environment and the economy. As the first employee and founding President and CEO of Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), she built an internationally renowned global cleantech fund. She increased public funding from $100M in 2001 to over $1.4B in 2014 and mobilized private sector capital for project funding and commercialization financing of $4.3B.
Dr. Sharpe is also a Senior Fellow at the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and a Director on several boards. At the IISD, she provides strategic advice to help shape the Canadian cleantech landscape.
"As a widely recognized expert and advocate for sustainable development and technology innovation, Vicky has addressed both national and international audiences to promote an understanding of the culture shift in values society must make to secure a sustainable future. Her experience will play a key role in executing QUEST's vision of making every community in Canada a Smart Energy Community by 2030," said Michael Harcourt, Chair of the QUEST Board of Directors.
With over 35 years of experience in the energy industry, Dr. Sharpe has successfully integrated sustainable development into business practices. As President of GRI Canada and Astral Group, she demonstrated leadership and vision in the use of innovative technologies across Canada's primary economic sectors. As Vice President of Ontario Hydro International Inc., Dr. Sharpe created new global revenue streams for environmental and energy utilization practices. Prior to that, she held management positions in marketing, business development, and technology innovation.
