DTES Easter this Saturday: Union Gospel Mission to serve over 3,000 meals to those struggling with homelessness, poverty and addiction
VANCOUVER, April 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Union Gospel Mission is preparing to serve over 3,000 special Easter meals this Saturday for its annual holiday celebration with the Downtown Eastside community while they enjoy live music, a friendly family setting, and all the Easter trimmings. This meal marks one year since UGM moved into its new, expanded facility, doubling most of its program offerings. UGM will also be serving Easter dinners at three other locations across Greater Vancouver. The event runs 10:30 - 4:30 at 601 East Hastings.
Special: Clearly Contacts will be onsite providing sight tests and reading glasses for near-sightedness for those in need (10am - 2:30pm). They will also be working with an optometrist to provide prescription glasses.
Location: 601 East Hastings, Vancouver (@ Princess Street)
Serving: 3,500 pounds of ham, 900 pounds of scalloped potatoes, 270 pounds of pineapple sauce, 750 pounds of vegetables, and 800 apple pies & ice cream.
