WHITBY, ON, Jan. 21, 2019 /CNW/ - Durham College (DC) and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) are celebrating the recent completion of the college's first-ever Boiler Lab on Friday, January 25.
Located at the Whitby campus, and funded by both DC and OPG, the new lab will help ensure students gain real-world experience and knowledge from hands-on training in an actual, operating boiler room setting.
It also addresses an identified need from employers, including OPG, for graduates with the knowledge and abilities required to work in their industries, helping to close the skills gap that currently exists in the province; students will be prepared for rewarding careers while industry can access future leaders.
A demonstration of the boiler will take place following the formal presentation, in addition to tours of the Whitby campus.
