TORONTO, April 8 /CNW/ - On Saturday May 8, the Denison Armoury in Downsview will be hosting a 'Thank You Liberators' WWII Conference to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Liberation of Holland by Canadian and other Allied Forces. The event is being organized by the Dutch Canadian Association of Greater Toronto. Its objective is to honour WW II veterans that participated in the Liberation of Holland, as well as members of the Dutch-Canadian community that experienced the Liberation.
"Veterans with 'Dutch experience' attend for free," said Martin van Denzen, President of the Dutch Canadian Association of Greater Toronto and himself a survivor. "Members of the Dutch Canadian community and the general public can buy tickets for $25 each. I think this would be one last great opportunity for the Dutch Canadian community to say thanks to these heroes. These men are the reason many of us came to Canada."
On May 8, registration is from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Subsequently, the audience will be treated to a varied program. A special '65th Anniversary Youth Choir' with 120 children from the Rehoboth Christian School in Copetown has been assembled for this occasion. Also, world-renowned violinist Moshe Hammer is on the program and footage of the liberation will be shown. There will be speeches by war veterans and lunch will be served at noon. The Conference will conclude around 3 p.m. with a reception for the veterans, hosted by the Consulate General of The Netherlands.
"Thanks to a number of generous sponsors and Denison Armoury, we are able to honour these war veterans once again," said Martin van Denzen. "When the Canadians and other Allied Forces entered Holland in 1944/45, there were 'Thank You Liberators' banners everywhere, so that's why we'll have a large banner with the words THANK YOU LIBERATORS ready when the veterans march into the Parade Hall!"
If you are a non-veteran and wish to attend, send a cheque today to make sure you have a seat. Cost is $25 per ticket. Make cheques payable to 'Thank You Liberators' and send to the Dutch Canadian Association of Greater Toronto, 207 Newton Road, Willowdale, ON, M2M 2P2.
