E-waste A Free Ticket To Green Living Show
Samsung Electronics provides free admission to Green Living Show visitors with hunks of e-junk
TORONTO, April 6 /CNW/ - Admission fee? What admission fee? Torontonians looking for a free ticket into this year's Green Living show need look no further than the old VCR, camcorder, or desktop computer collecting dust in their basements.
Samsung Electronics Canada, presenting sponsor of the 2010 Green Living Show, will provide free admission to anyone who brings e-waste to the event. Alternatively, those who can't find an old cell phone, digital camera, computer monitor or laptop to part with can pay a $12 fee and a portion of that will go to the World Wildlife Federation.
"We wanted to give Torontonians an extra bit of incentive to attend this year's Green Living Show and do it in a way that is in line with our global eco-management commitments," said Ron Hulse, vice president, B2B and Digital Convergence, Samsung Electronics Canada. "Much like we design and manufacture our products with a focus on sustainability, Samsung's commitment is to make it as easy as possible for consumers to live a greener life through the responsible recycling of old electronics."
The Green Living Show provides practical and workable solutions to Canadians interested in leading a more sustainable lifestyle. The show offers hundreds of eco-friendly exhibitors and experts in everything from energy, transportation and building to food and beverage, eco-tourism and recreation.
Old and used electronics brought in by visitors will be recycled at one of Samsung's Recycling Direct(TM) depots located throughout Canada and facilitated by Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP). GEEP collects e-waste and recycles it in the most ecologically responsible manner, foregoing incineration, solid waste landfills or the exporting of toxic waste to developing countries.
"This is all part of Samsung's Recycling Direct commitment," said Hulse. "We want to ensure that we can gather as many old electronics as possible and do something useful with them, rather than having them fill up our landfills."
The Green Living show will run from April 23 - 25 at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place, Halls B & C. For more information, visit www.greenlivingonline.com.
