MONTREAL, March 18, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - EACOM Timber Corporation is pleased to welcome the 2016-2017 Quebec provincial budget, delivered yesterday by Finance Minister Carlos Leitão. The provincial budget demonstrates the Government's commitment to supporting the recovery of Quebec's forest industry.
EACOM is especially pleased with the Couillard Government's commitment of $48 million in public access roads funding for 2016-2017 as part of a 5-year pledge. This funding will support the building and maintenance of public resource access roads for the benefit of the entire province. The Quebec Government will also be taking more ownership over the protection of our public forests from disturbances, such as fires and insect outbreaks.
"We'd like to thank Minister Lessard and Premier Couillard for their continued support of Quebec's forest industry," said Kevin Edgson, President and CEO of EACOM Timber Corporation. "Our forest products sector is a world leader in innovation, trade, diversification, and sustainability. The support provided in the 2016-2017 budget will help strengthen Quebec's industry, and create stability for our people and the communities in which we work."
EACOM is proud to be a part of Quebec's forest products sector with its Val-d'Or and Matagami sawmills and Sullivan remanufacturing facility. Working together with the Couillard Government, the sector expects to see continued growth, providing innovative, sustainably harvested wood products to consumers in Canada and around the world.
